IDENTIFYING THE SHEEP AND GOATS: Differentiating Real Disciples from the Bogus Boys
There are two Christianities. One is real. One is fake. The following will help you tell them apart:
The reason Unreal Christianity is a big bulky non-innovative high-dollar extremely low bang-for-your-buck non-New Testament intractable overly bureaucratic religious sluggish slow-moving massive blob dictated to by institutional seminary-trained boshheads, cold-minded clerics, and charged-up dense denominators endlessly parroting the centuries-dead Ichabod gloryless company line is because, principally, the Lord Jesus is not in charge.
That is a problem.
When one reads the New Covenant writings with a clear head and pure heart without all the mind-numbed artery-clogging casuistic falsely-interpretive nonsense nomenclature and grossly obese religiosity and churchianity content, one discovers an incredible streamlined living and loving Community of Called-Out Ones exhibiting cleanliness, quickness, Spirit of God-fueled power needing next to zero overhead and fitting into any and all cultures with a life-giving new-life Gospel message for anyone anywhere on the planet.
It is fast. It is mobile. It is loving. It is caring. It is merciful. It is self-effacing. It is filled with joy. It is creative, fruitful, and productive. It is easily financed. It never requires large money outlays to be powerfully effective. The members love each other, always support each other, and always develop quickly into strong mature and secure disciples. Rather than pour everything into a building with one guy preaching there is often no building and a hundred guys preaching. They go anywhere demanded, do anything commanded, suffer any hardship, overcome evil with good, and battle raging hate with pure love.
And it can’t be stopped. Kill one member and ten more pop up. Try to eliminate it and it only grows larger. Try to destroy it and Great Awakenings break forth. Persecution only makes it more powerful. When the devil jabs he gets knocked over the ropes with a ferocious left hook. When he fights dirty he gets pounded into the ground. When he uses lies and gossip he and his entire operation is revealed for all the world to see. When he tries to hide he gets outed. When he brings darkness he is exposed with a million mega watt game spotter.
There is thus no comparison between real Christians and the fake pretentious pretenders. One is led by the Lord Jesus and the other is not. One is filled with His Spirit and the other is not. One can move mountains and the other cannot. One can raise the dead and the other is the dead. One believes and the other disbelieves. One obeys and the other rebels. One is faithful and the other is a cynical denier of spiritual reality. One will inherit the Kingdom and gain eternal life and the other will …not.
SHEEP AND GOATS
“But when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered before Him; and He will separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats; and He will put the sheep on His right, and the goats on the left.
“Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. ‘For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.’
“Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink? And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You? When did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ The King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.’
“Then He will also say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels; for I was hungry, and you gave Me nothing to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me nothing to drink; I was a stranger, and you did not invite Me in; naked, and you did not clothe Me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit Me.’
“Then they themselves also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not take care of You?’ Then He will answer them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’ These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” [Matthew 25:31-46]

One talks about Jesus but he is not in their heart; the real know Jesus and are known by him as he is in their heart!

Oh, my. This was epic. How long did you spend collecting all those awesome adjectives? Great exhortation.
Thanks Brandon. The river flowed pretty fast in that section. The more we all grow closer to the Lord and study how He works and how He operated back then the more we understand why, and why He has such an incredible effect on this fallen world.
The only model that actually works is His original model and depending on the human element will always bring forth fruit, though the percentages will vary:
“And others fell on the good soil and yielded a crop, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty. He who has ears, let him hear.” [Matthew 13:8-9]
“And the one on whom seed was sown on the good soil, this is the man who hears the word and understands it; who indeed bears fruit and brings forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty.” [Matthew 13:23]

As I’m reading this, I’m thinking about how incredibly effective the early church was and the reason, as you have said, is that Jesus was in charge and all were guided by the Holy Spirit. Then I got to the part where you said, “It is creative, fruitful, and productive. It is easily financed. It never requires large money outlays to be powerfully effective.” This made me think, “Maybe the reason that we see Jesus so often not in charge is that maybe there’s no money to be made when Jesus is in charge.” Just a thought. Anyway, thanks for this great post!

Thank you. Greatly appreciate it. You’ve hit on something here, something much more profound than we all realize.
The Lord Jesus had already arranged things in such a way that it would not be possibly to use His model for the gaining of wealth. We must remember, however, that though He was always in the process of reform through His teachings, that He wanted people to be free, and that He must therefore reveal why people were not free, there was one principle area with regard to this in which the enemy went, as they say, ballistic. I will get to it at the end of this comment.
The people had become infected with all manner of spiritual disease. This is what sin does. And because we as humans often lack the necessary ability or control to always effectively fight against sin or resist temptation, and because the enemy had gained much power and control, the Lord had to reveal all the things by which we become infected and also the sinister methods the enemy uses. The devil is a deceiver. He does his best work anonymously. He much prefers that people never acknowledge his existence or that they believe he does not exist. It allows him to do his work much easier and be more effective at it.
The only way the Lord could combat this for the sake of His people, since they had become so deceived and blind (going back centuries), was to introduce a series of surface directives which essentially say, “Do this, don’t do that.” The only way this could work is if the point was driven home strongly enough regarding the consequences of each. Thus the Torah was essentially in this sense the Lord attempting to reveal why humanity falls into sin and how not to fall into sin. He was outing the devil’s process for infecting humans and warning His people how not to get infected. It all depended on ceasing incorrect behaviors and trusting Him that He knew what He was doing.
Since we have a free will because we were made like Him, in His image, the Lord will never force people to do anything, because (1) It doesn’t work, (2) It is counter-productive, and (3) people will only rebel against it because He made us to be free. But “free” people with a freedom mentality cannot possibly be free when compromised by sin which came by the way of the enemy’s temptation. So the Lord has to “respect us” in that sense and present choices with the consequences revealed in advance. He says, “If you do this, this will happen. If it is a bad thing there will be a bad result. If it is a good thing there will be a good result.” He then listed a great many of the good and bad things. So He said, “Do the good thing and you will have good results. Do not do the bad thing and you will not have bad results.” That’s what it boils down to.
But by the time the Lord became one of us and walked among us almost fifteen centuries after the Torah, the Law, though it remained perfect, had been compromised through the additions and subtractions of religious hard core doofuses who had long since lost contact with God and simply started winging it using their natural minds which had become infected by sin. There were still those who insisted that this adopted casuistic approach was wrong but they were outvoted and lost authority. The good guys at that time were acting in a sense like prophets but were not prophets. The prophetic Word had ceased in the mid-to-late 400s BC.
This means the people were often duly obeying their religious leaders but did not realize their “religion” had been compromised. They were doing what they were told would help them but kept sinking farther away from God. They were obeying the wrong people with wrong teachings and because these authoritarians were in charge they did not have much choice and there was no comparative to reveal them for what they really were. Sound familiar?
That is, until the Lord showed up. When He did, HE BEGAN REVEALING ALL THE GARBAGE IN ORDER TO SET PEOPLE FREE. The religious leaders thus obviously hated Him for it. The big unnamed thing I mentioned earlier, though, was the one that really set them off. They had often tried to get Him but never could. However, when the time came for Him to lay down His life and become vulnerable, He did it in context with revealing the fact that in their heart, the evil religious people who had gained control were principally MONEY GRUBBERS. They were lovers of money. The Sadducees and Pharisees both were lovers of money. It was when the Lord exposed and attacked their vile money practices when He cleaned out the temple a few days before He was crucified that they said, “Enough!” They knew their entire faux kingdom was about to come down if they didn’t get Him.
Of course it came down anyway forty years later when Jerusalem and the temple were destroyed in 70AD, but by that time the Lord Jesus had introduced the means for those among His people who believed in Him to overcome sin, recognize the enemy, gain strength to resist temptation, get filled with His Spirit and gain anointing to preach the Gospel, and no longer fall for the enemy’s garbage especially his false religions and corrupt belief systems.
So again, the Lord arranged things in His new Community that there would be no possibility of the same “gaining wealth through religion” as practiced by the bad guys. This does not mean we cannot be blessed. It only means that He will never allow His real people to use His Gospel as a mere means to make money. He will ALWAYS take care of His people, however, and bless us accordingly and even abundantly. He has made all manner of blessings available.
Thanks again for your insight. Blessings to you.

This reminds me of what happened to me while I was hitchhiking in Oregon back in 2012:
(Below are comments from this post: I Should go to Dairy Queen More Often https://hitchhikeamerica.wordpress.com/2012/12/23/i-should-go-to-dairy-queen-more-often/)
Being raised in an idolatrous Irish Catholic family, I had sacraments running out of my ears. These sacraments are only man-made, outward shows of religion. The carnal, unsaved mind loves sacraments because it feeds their pride of self-salvation (work yourself for salvation).
We are saved from the inside out, not the outside in (by using sacraments). If someone is constantly concerned about external rituals and ordinances and liturgies, they can’t possibly be abiding in Christ. Abiding in Christ is an internal relationship. External things like sacraments are only window dressing and are absolutely worthless.
It is only faith in the Blood of Jesus that cleanses us from sin–not external, religious calisthenics (sacraments).
This happened just a few days ago. I hitchhiked from North Bend to the west side of Eugene, Oregon. I had to walk with my backpack in 90 degree heat through Eugene and through Springfield (which is a number of miles). By the time I got to the east side of Springfield, my feet were aching and I was very tired.
I saw this evangelical church. They had a sign that said they were going to have a concert and free hot dogs. All I needed was to fill up my water bottle, because it was so hot. There were chairs set up outside the church and some people were setting up musical equipment. I put my backpack down next to the building and grabbed my water bottle.
I walked up to the people and asked if I could fill up my water bottle. The leader looked at me and hesitated (he probably saw my backpack) and then he said okay. I walked inside the church building and filled up my water bottle. I thanked them and tried to start a little conversation by mentioning that I was into intercessory prayer; there was no response.
I walked back to my backpack. Nobody invited me to their concert, nobody asked me if I needed a hot dog, nobody suggested that I sit down for a while and rest my tired feet (I was hobbling a little because I had been walking for miles in the heat with a 55 pound backpack). I walked away from that church building knowing that the spirit of Christ was not there–but I am sure they thought they were Christians because they went to a church building on Sunday to socialize (idolatry).
I walked on down the street and noticed a Dairy Queen sign. I had a few dollars on me, so I walked into the Dairy Queen. I bought my first cherry milkshake in years. After I finished my milkshake, I walked outside to my backpack. There was this family sitting at a table outside near my backpack. As I grabbed my backpack, they asked me what I was doing.
I told them about my life on the road and that I was obeying the Lord. We had the most wonderful fellowship. They wished me good travels as I walked on down the street. It was SO redeeming. That fellowship was so spontaneous and full of the Holy Ghost; they were genuinely interested in my life of hitchhiking and obeying the Lord.
That family at that Dairy Queen were so alive in Christ. That evangelical church was absolutely dead.
I should go to Dairy Queen more often.
Quote, “I should go to Dairy Queen more often.” Tim, this speaks volumes and volumes beyond what we both realize my brother. I read your thoughts and it really touched me, I could visualize you standing there in the midst of a “church social club” and them not even recognizing some of the most basic tenants taught by Christ. They are unaware of Hebrews 13:2 Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares; and Matthew 25:35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: or Romans 12:13 Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality. NOPE NONE OF THESE. . . So, where do you find solace and comfort and fellowship? In a Dairy Queen… Very very revealing and telling…
God bless you my brother.
Saving faith is believing-in-God faith, not believing-in-a-man-made-institution faith or believing-in-myself faith. “Abraham believed God and it was imputed to him as righteousness.”
I meet so many people who believe in Christian principles, but they reject Christ with their lives.
Years ago I was hitchhiking in West Virginia. I got dropped off in Charleston. I walked past this place where it looked like these people were having a picnic. I walked a couple of blocks away, put down my backpack and started thumbing for a ride.
A few minutes later these two teenage girls walked up to me and asked me if I would like to come to their church picnic. I was pleasantly surprised. So I walked back to their picnic. There I met the pastor and some other people. It started to rain, so we moved everything inside the church building. We had food and good fellowship.
I later learned that that pastor invited another hitchhiker and a homeless person to their picnic. Now how many pastors would do that? The pastor put me up in a motel for the night and I hitchhiked to Washington, D.C. the next day.
It was all so totally unexpected and spontaneous and refreshing. The Kingdom of Heaven is like a little child: unexpected, spontaneous, refreshing, living by faith in God.

Regarding Catholicism, please see the following post I wrote a year ago: Catholics Speaking in Tongues! The Spirit-Filled Movement of the 1960s.
Those are some great stories filled with living illustrations. There are many believers who have similar stories to tell. I know I do. Our relations with other Christians are sometimes not so easy often because people can be clannish. Many Christian groups apparently do not realize that their attitudes and formats have been conditioned. It is the same with some social media users, for example, who eventually arrange all their contacts to have almost their exact views on issues and culture. People often do not realize that they are self-censoring and blocking truth. Of course, Unreal Christianity adopted this tactic centuries ago. I wrote this in my book:
“As strange as it may seem, what we have to show for two millennia of church history is an overwhelming preponderance of completely unique and separate Christian cultures. Stranger still, most of these are simultaneously and mysteriously united under the umbrella of a single proviso. Though not in fellowship with the other and though each claims to be under the Lord’s dominion, they are actually joined as one in their opposition to His complete rule.
“In reality, their actions give them the demeanor of the legendary roving bands of the ancient world, seeking pastures for their flocks, fighting those who threaten their turf, ever wondering and searching for greater power and influence, but all the while refusing to be fully obedient to the Lord. Stiff-necked, stubborn, arrogant, clutching their religious robes about them, they set their feet in the concrete of human frailty and fear, unable to trust the God of all creation whose truth could set them free.
“However, for real believers who yearn for a united body of Christ, today’s dream is tomorrow’s reality, but only if we are successful in eliminating those elements which have crept in stealthily, generating schism, confusion, and ignorance. If seeking and sincere believers continue to confess beliefs and honor cultural traditions which are not of the Lord, exist only to set us apart, and give place to masquerading demonic spirits, we only further erode the hope of community. The Church will never be completed until each member follows the Lord Jesus all the way to the tree of life and subsequently submits to His full authority and discipleship.”

Gotta love that first paragraph 🙂
We’ve truly become fat, lazy, and unwilling to be forward-looking. Sad state of affairs, because I believe the day is coming in this country when God is going to allow persecution in order to FORCE us to rid ourselves of all that is “normal” in American Christianity today. I still believe in the Church, because it is so clearly God’s plan. But how we go about doing church needs a closer look. Keep it biblical, and let God be God.
Thanks. That’s a great comment. There is no doubt a Remnant in this country. I knew going back at least a quarter century that great persecution was coming to Christians in America. The reason we don’t “see” it as of yet is because much of it is suppressed. Sadly, the greatest persecutors of Christians here are other Christians, and real Christians have been getting slammed for a very long time. Real preachers can also relate. Because of all the in-house persecution many have been forced to leave the institution. Real Christians have been changing and attempting to change how we do church for a long time but it has not come without great cost. Whatever the case, the only correct course to take is to continue obeying the Lord Jesus and insist on His real teachings onward into the future. This is yet another reason a Great Awakening is coming.
