THE EMPIRE OF DARKNESS STRIKES BACK
The Lord Jesus came to His people during a time of profound national darkness. There had been no prophetic word for over four centuries and the resultant void was filled by religious pretenders.
.
BIG BAD JOHN
John the Immerser was an absolute phenomenon, a sensation. No one had carried such an anointing since the times of Elisha, the man who took the mantle from Elijah. One will notice, however, that though Elisha was given a double portion of Elijah’s powerful spiritual anointing, it was still Elijah’s spirit. These two men lived in the ninth century BC, and it was approximately a full 900 years from the beginning of Elijah’s ministry to that of John’s.
Malachi, the final Hebrew prophet before John, ceased his ministry in the late fifth century BC. This is what he wrote at the end of his book concerning John the Immerser:
“Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord. He will restore the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers, so that I will not come and smite the land with a curse.” [Malachi 4:5-6]
Those wise with understanding would have known that this personage who was to come would not be the actual man Elijah. The man himself mattered little in that he was but a vessel. It was the Spirit of God that rested upon Elijah. The great prophet is certainly to be commended for his magnificent discipleship, obedience, and determination, but he would be the first to tell you that the mantle (garment) upon him was the mantle of God.
GOD’S MANTLE IN ACTION
I watched a preacher recently on video. I had never heard him preach before but his name was vaguely familiar. He was a veteran preacher, having already spent many years as a willing vessel. He was filled with the Holy Spirit. One night in prayer, the Lord suddenly spoke to him and said He was going to heal everybody in the church the next night. One obviously does not often hear that. The man believed it right off and began looking forward to the next night’s service with much expectancy.
The next day he started telling some members of his congregation what to expect. It would be a great night! By the time the meeting began, however, all was dead. There was a heaviness. It felt empty. The man started wondering why but being a mature minister and knowing what he had heard the night before, he understood that darkness was fighting back. They all began to pray and worship. They fought through it. Later, when the time came for the healing service to begin, he had people line up in the main aisle. The first two in line were women who had been battling relatively severe health issues. The preacher thought, “Oh Lord, why couldn’t You have started this out with something easier?” But he got his little vial of anointing oil and began walking toward the steps of the platform to go down and begin praying for people.
However, something strange happened before he ever got there. He felt something on his back. He thought a fellow minister on the platform behind him had placed something upon him that felt like a coat. He wasn’t amused. He turned around but there was nobody there close enough. He felt his back and there was nothing there, at least nothing he could see. But he felt a tangible presence of something that could only be explained as the mantle of God.
While still on the platform he turned to the front to begin going down to pray for the people but before he got there (again), he saw that the first woman in line was already feeling the very powerful presence of the Lord! She had her hands up, her eyes closed, and was praying and worshipping. She suddenly began reacting to God’s presence all the more and before the preacher ever got to her or anointed her with oil she was instantly healed of her disease! Then the same thing happened to the next woman in line. And the next. Before the night was over everyone there who needed healing was supernaturally healed by the Spirit of God.
The Lord did exactly as He told the preacher He would do the night before. Darkness had tried to intervene but the people had stayed faithful. Darkness failed.
OUR FAITHFULNESS TO GOD
I’ve been around a while. I’ve seen a lot. I’ve experienced a lot. I could write a book on the personal miracles I’ve experienced in my life. It often starts with an internal spiritual desire, what some describe as a “burning.” It is something relating directly to the will of God. When a person catches ahold of that, and prays about it, and seeks the Lord about it, and is faithful to it, the desire grows. It is the Lord confirming that one is on the right track.
But then the enemy enters the picture and tries to mess it up. Spiritual warfare breaks out. There is a strong attempt to bring discouragement and a lack of energy. One has to fight through it. It takes time. Again, I could tell you stories. Determined as I was, and in great need of the miracle, there was no turning back. When you have a big fish on the line you may have to play him for a while. The time comes when you at last break through, defeat the enemy, and the very thing you prayed about, that which looked impossible in the beginning, actually comes to pass. This is what a spiritual fight and faithfulness can do. My life was changed for the better on several occasions through miraculous means. If I had not stayed faithful and determined to fight alongside the Lord the great victories would never have happened.
THIS PRESENT DARKNESS
America is blowing up. Great evil has emerged. It is not unlike what happened in the first century AD. After 400 plus years of no prophetic word the nation of Israel continued to decline from within. Its spiritual weakness made it prone to attack from without and such attacks were often cakewalks for the enemy. What happened to the prophets? Why did the Lord stop sending prophets? I can answer that by asking the same question regarding America. We used to have a majority of solid Christian people and solid Christian leaders in this country. They knew the Word. Why? Because it was being taught seven days a week in some way or another. As time went on, however, the Christian strength of America continued a steady decline. Why? Because the solid Christians and Christian leaders began dying off and fading out, the latter largely through spiritual compromise. Then preachers began acting exactly like politicians in that their funding sources had to be protected at all costs. They began serving money rather than serving God. The Christians under these ministers never put up much of a fight and let them get away with it.
The enemy invaded the void. In ancient Israel’s time, the enemy that invaded the spiritual void included the religious leaders who eventually grew so demonic they sold out their country. They chose the rabid Zealots over the Lord Jesus and His followers.
These people you see in the streets today are much like the Zealots of old who were willing to destroy their own country in their effort to defeat Rome. Rome was never defeated by them but Israel ceased to exist forever. After they murdered the Lord things continued getting worse year by year until the final conflagration in AD 70. It was the result of rejecting love and peace and choosing instead ever greater amounts of hatred, bitterness, and anger until they were consumed by evil.
But the early Christians thrived. It was a spiritual war and the early believers won. The kingdom of the Lord Jesus continued to expand all across the world. At present there are a great many strong Spirit-filled Christians in America winning a spiritual war and the devil is striking back in any which way he can. He has many deceived people doing his work who care nothing for the Lord. This fight will grow much worse over the next few months.
Darkness is reacting to Light. It is reacting violently. Darkness is fighting for survival.
“This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God.” [John 3:19-21][1]

excellent, powerful Word! thank you RJ and God bless you!
When the enemy attacked my second marriage, I almost gave up in despair. I despaired of life and wanted to die, but the Holy Spirit I did not know (I only knew religion) led me to seek and find the bible my mother had given me when I was little and I had never read for myself. Church was our life growing up but it was a “dead” Lutheran church under religious leaders who were not baptized by the Holy Spirit and fire, the baptism of Jesus, but only with the water of repentance and seminary taught intellectual knowledge of God. In despair of life, not knowing I was hungry and thirsty for the righteousness of God in Christ, I read the Holy Bible starting in Matthew for three days straight and the Word came alive, and the Living Word, the actual living presence and Spirit of Christ Jesus ministered to my spirit and soul and body. After the three days I settled in to continue reading and taking copious notes of all the amazing things I was discovering and were being revealed through the Word, but I thought I had a sudden onset of an acute fever, and was burning up, but instead I was caught up, whether in body or not I do not know, but I know that when I came to my normal senses again, I was in love with God our Father and knew he loved me. It reset my entire being and started me on a long journey of learning, growing, maturing, and learning how to spiritually battle and win through every attack, and they have been vicious, as the thief has stolen much, killed my beloved, and tried to destroy me. But God is Greater and nothing is too hard for God and no weapon formed against me can prosper, and Christ in us is greater than the god of this world and his spirit of error, the spirit of this world system.
One of the things I can’t figure out is why the baptism of Jesus, Holy Spirit and fire, is not taught; the Holy Spirit had to teach me and I am so grateful! I also can’t figure out why so many say Elijah still has to come when Jesus said he already came (John the Baptist) and they did not recognize him any more than they recognized Jesus as the Messiah, the Christ, the Son of God. I pray that God will send his Spirit of Truth upon all the churches and their pastors to guide them into all the Truth. I do not think I would be alive today if God had not saved me, helped me time and time again supernaturally, healed me multiple times, delivered me, and set me free in the Lord who is the Spirit.

Thank you Yvonne. What you relate here is so absolutely perfect regarding that which is truly necessary for (1) Knowing God, (2) Receiving salvation, and (3) Possessing that which is required to engage in successful spiritual warfare. Of course, it is all based on the Word of God, specifically the teachings of the Lord Jesus. Without that knowledge, people will try other methods familiar to them and often get indoctrinated unknowingly by any number of gurus masquerading as legitimate dispensers of truth and advice. Some of their stuff may work to whatever degree in the here and now, yet, as always, the ones it works best for are those who manage to get to the top or toward the top of some pyramid, and this goes for religion also (obviously). In fact the first pyramids, the ziggurats of ancient Sumer, were primarily religious in nature.
This answers the question regarding why so much of Christianity, what I refer to as Unreal Christianity, is spiritually dead. They don’t want the Truth. They have no desire for it. They want their religion. Those profiting from it want it exactly as it is because it means making a living and in some cases a great living. They successfully and quite adroitly walk a tightrope in which they both maintain their dominance and control over their people but also gain their support. It works very well for all involved in that those at the top satisfy their lust for power and prestige and those below belong to an organization they think cares for them and makes sure they are right with God. Of course, most are not, but it makes them feel good to believe it. Neither party wants to subject themselves fully to the Lord Jesus so they convince themselves of another way which doesn’t actually exist. They can thus stay safe in their flesh and religious tradition without having to actually go through the life-transforming process of real repentance, which burns up everything not of God, and which allows for only one new path.
Of course, taking on the Lord’s Name in water baptism or actually being filled with the Holy Spirit are mountains which are that much harder for them to gain a will to climb and are summarily rejected.
Your experience is similar to the experience of the person who first witnessed to me. She had been seeking God for several weeks after having been witnessed to but didn’t know what to do at the time. She ended up getting gloriously filled with the Spirit of God while home alone. She convinced her husband to take her to a Spirit-filled church. These were friends of mine. I later heard the news and thought they had gone off the deep end. I lost all respect for them. Then, a few months later she came and witnessed to me. It was exactly what I had been searching for in my young life for years. This tells us that the Lord can bring us to Himself even when no one else is around. Like your experience, it is driven by a hunger for truth and spiritual reality.
I’m sorry you have had to battle so much but on the other hand I am grateful because you keep winning regardless of the circumstances. The Lord always provides everything we may need and then some but it often only arrives through spiritual warfare and defeating the enemy trying to subvert it. Regarding marriage, I can relate to the end result of the enemy bringing destruction regardless of much warfare on my part to the contrary.
At the end of the day we learn we MUST fight for the Lord who gave His life for us no matter the cost, and fulfill our callings to the best of our ability, regardless of circumstances and demonic attacks upon our lives and character. If we make sure we stay in His love and focused on His work we will make it. He will bless us and take care of us. We will overcome and in the end will be able to say the same thing the apostle Paul said:
“For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing.” [2Timothy 4:6-8]
In the meantime we have much work to do and more spiritual battles to win. The Lord is counting on us.
Blessings to you, Yvonne. I’m proud of you and greatly appreciate your witness. You teach us all how to overcome, keep our joy, and maintain a vibrant walk with the Lord. Onward!

Thanks Jacquie. We have been commanded by God to tell a hurting world that He is GOOD and LOVING and KIND and that He CARES. Sin cuts everybody off from God. He has no other way to communicate with us on a heart level unless He has sons and daughters to send out for that purpose. Our primary objective, then, as Christians, is to tell people that God loves them. This love must be demonstrated. I know you know all this and you could just as easily be teaching me these fundamentals, but it makes one wonder when so many Christians lose sight of them. Love is a door. Our Lord Jesus is the only Door. Most people have no problem with being shown love. If we love first then those lost in sin and out of communication with God will actually “see” God by our witness.
I am so glad you were blessed by the post! I have heard so many stories like this when good-hearted preachers were made to “stand aside,” so to speak, so the Lord could take over and do His work. If we could all adopt this attitude it would be so great. Imagine what the Lord could do.
Blessings to you Jacquie!

I’ve been around for a long time, too. I’ve seen exactly what you describe. I’ve heard some of the most outstanding preachers and evangelists in my lifetime. I’ve observed the growth of the megachurch movement, which does tend to elevate the pastor to the level of being the ONLY authority. I’ve seen the trend toward small groups and church houses. And the thing I’ve wondered, through it all, is if we’re still teaching God’s Word, or are we just teaching new and popular ways to “do church.”

When the movement first started it was organic and necessary, and more in keeping with the practices of the Early Church. Many Christians were simply not receiving all they needed in a traditional format. Some churches were antagonistic toward it and many more became that way. I found it to be very refreshing but could certainly feel the tug of war in the Spirit and the fear expressed by church leaders.
When I was a rookie Spirit-filled believer in the late 1970s someone in our church had the idea to have a meeting in their apartment. This was a good, solid young family that loved the church. It attracted a big crowd, mainly composed of young twenty-somethings, who loved the informal format. There was a simple theme, a topic. I think the first one was “Love” and then maybe “Hope.” We were all having a great time. Many were having their voices heard. The Lord was certainly there. The pastor, however, never showed. After three meetings he shut it down. To me and so many others it was a big loss and I learned a lesson. No one meant any harm. We were all still attending church services. What I remember most was the joy and happiness. It was great spiritual fellowship.
There is no doubt that later forms of such home meetings in America had alternative agendas. The worst thing that ever happened, at least in my opinion, was when big churches realized they could not compete or eliminate the movement and decided to co-opt it. This all began happening on a large scale in the early to mid 1980s. They created “official” home groups fully under the overall authority of the church, breaking the congregation into groups as it were. This was actually cell division in reverse. They established a hierarchy of leaders to watch over the process and appointed official leaders to the groups. I participated in this, becoming a home group leader at my house. But it was controlled. I did my best under weird circumstances. Our group was one of the best in part because I wanted the Lord to be in charge and also wanted the people in my group to be blessed. We had a great time. The church wasn’t so impressed, however. As an aside, you likely wouldn’t believe the paperwork I had to fill out. They wanted to know what went on in the meetings and wanted to pry by putting the details of people’s lives in the paperwork. I simply went through the motions regarding that and kept things confidential.
Needless to say, the overall movement suffered much abuse. Many church home groups became absolute jokes with absolutely no spiritual content. To this day there are still church bound Christians who absolutely hate independent home churches. I suffered from some of these idiots. It’s just one more strange thing about “official” churches rejecting New Covenant truth, in this case disparaging the very model the Lord created for our benefit. They do love their control.
And now, after the greatest attack upon Christianity in general in American history, the ongoing 2020 attack, it is the home group and other forms of gathering that are actually saving Christianity. Christians are still gathering even though many churches have shut down. This is an amazing turn of events and proves once again that the Lord’s original organic traveling light model will work anywhere and anytime under any circumstances. This attack will get worse before it gets better. It’s up to each believer to stand tall for the Lord.
Thanks and Blessings.

Yeah. He’s doing all this in part because almost nobody fights back. Yvonne just told me about a lawsuit brought by a church, however, so that’s encouraging. Remember when the Lord said we must stop being Christians if the government mandates it? Me neither. I wonder what kind of challenges simple Christian witnessing is facing?

Portland, OR. is going up in flames. The whole west coast has been hit so hard. I lived in Portland for five years when I was a kid. Loved it. Not any more. So, so sad.

I imagine the city was a great place then. I listened to a podcast recently that explained everything, going back several years, tracing the history that laid the groundwork for the present happenings there. Needless to say, I guess, there has been much sinister political activity. The point is that these things are planned well in advance for a particular purpose. Due to the nature of the lawless activity, what is visible from without has a powerful effect on the emotions, and it is made to appear random so no one would suspect it is anything more than emotional people lashing out. There are, however, many unseen irons in this particular fire.

It will be interesting to see how long they can actually stay ahead of the narrative and control it. It works better in some places than others. The great concern, especially for the local residents, regards how far they are willing to go. Thanks Linda.
